The Mouse and I

It's sunday afternoon. I don't want to work on my thesis. All I feel like doing is hopping on the internet and googling for the libretto and English translation for Dvorak's Rusalka.

Yeah, take that Disney! Oh, I'm sorry Mickey. I really do love you. Look, I'm wearing my Eurodisney socks right now. But, to be fair, if you had already released The Little Mermaid on DVD (October this year, you say, but I've heard that line before) then I wouldn't be tempted to go looking for other musical (animated, operatic or otherwise) adaptions of the classic story.

See, it's you Mickey, who've betrayed me. I was never going to wait forever.

And, let's face it, you've never been renowned for your faithfulness. I mean, at least Rusalka is true to the spirit of Hans Christian Anderson ending. I know, I know, you just want everyone to be happy. I do too. But sometimes honesty is more important. Without honesty, there is no trust. I want to trust you, Mickey, but it's just so hard.

Could we, maybe start again? Leave behind those memories of Home on the Range and straight-to-video sequels and get back to where it all began, when there was passion and romance and music, like...Romeo and Juliet. With a twist of course. Like, instead of people they could be...lions! Oh wait, been there, done that.

How about gnomes? You know, garden gnomes. What, you don't like it? You never like my ideas!!! I'm not being stubborn, you're being judgemental. If Hamlet with lions can work, why can't R&J with gnomes? You're right, we had Elton.

Alright, if you're going to be sulky, give Elton a call. While you do that, I might just hop on the internet to google....i mean, to check my email.

Pastafarians

And all this time I thought I was the only one who could see the flying spaghetti monster that lurks under my bed.

I especially like the link to piracy.

Oh, is anyone a member of Kripy? It's an e-newsletter that is sent out once a week, detailing all the indie arts events happening around Sydney and is free to join. I hear it's got some pretty *cough* swell contributors as well...they're really somebodies.
